This temple holds immense spiritual and historical significance. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that Mata Sati’s right foot fell here, making it one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India. The temple was constructed in 1501 AD by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya and has since remained an important center for devotion, spirituality, and cultural heritage.
Tripurasundari Shaktipeeth Online Service came into existance from 2025 AD, so that devotees can offer hassel free prayer, puja and hawan from their home.
TIMELINE
Goddess Sati self-immolated during Daksha Yaga. Lord Shiva, in grief, carried her corpse across Aryavarta. Her right foot (Dakshin Charan), including the big toe, fell at Udaipur, Tripura, marking it as a Shakti Peetha. Shakti worship began at this site as Tripura Sundari (Shakti) and Tripuresh (Bhairava).
Maharaja Dhanya Manikya had a divine vision instructing him to build a temple for Tripura Sundari. A temple dedicated to Vishnu already existed at the site, creating a dilemma. The king realized that Vishnu and Shakti are two forms of the same Supreme Deity (Brahman) and installed the idol of Tripura Sundari. The temple was built in Bengali Ek-ratna architectural style, featuring a cubical sanctum three-tiered roof, and a finial (shikhara).
Samser Gazi, ruler of Bengal, attacked Udaipur and captured the region. Despite being a foreign ruler, he offered prayers at the temple, showcasing its importance beyond religious boundaries.
Mata Tripura Sundari Temple became the second-most visited temple in Northeast India, after Kamakhya Temple, Assam. Recognized as an important Shakti Peetha, attracting pilgrims from India and Bangladesh. The annual Diwali Mela draws over 200,000 devotees.
